  This year marks the 60th anniversary of the publication of a series of novels called The Beulah Quintet.  The novels are by the late Mary Lee Settle, a writer who set out to capture moments in West Virginia history when a revolutionary change was at stake. Today's economic uncertainty here in Appalachia has many people wondering whether we are also living in the midst of a transition.

In Kanawha County, reoccurring mud and rock slides have led to the on and off closure of a portion of route 60 near Cedar Grove.

A community group has organized a meeting in Belle this evening to discuss the long-term impacts that these reoccurring closures could have on businesses and residents.

Cedar Grove's police chief faces charges stemming from an altercation with his wife and brother-in-law.

Media outlets report that 31-year-old Aaron Roop was arrested Tuesday on charges of domestic battery, domestic assault and brandishing a dangerous weapon.

The incident occurred at a residence in Fayette County.

WCHS-TV reports that Roop is accused in a criminal complaint with threatening to shoot his wife, and threatening his brother-in-law and hitting the other man in the head with a gun.
