This American Life

Saturdays 12 Noon-1 pm
  • Hosted by Ira Glass

This American Life is a weekly public radio show broadcast on more than 500 stations to about 2.1 million listeners. It is produced by Chicago Public Media, distributed by Public Radio International, and has won all of the major broadcasting awards. It is also often the most popular podcast in the country, with around one million people downloading each week. From 2006-2008, they  produced a television version of This American Life on the Showtime network, which won three Emmys. Each episode has a theme. That's mostly because a theme makes it seem like there's a reason to sit and listen to a story about a contest where everyone stands around a truck for days until only one person is left on their feet. The themes help make it seem like they should continue listening.
If you're not doing stories about the news, or celebrities, or things people have ever heard of elsewhere, you have to give people a reason to keep listening.
