OPHIRA EISENBERG, HOST:

Did you know Santa Barbara is Spanish for Saint Barbara?

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: I also just found out that Santa Claus is from Barcelona, which leads us to our next game called Santas And Barbaras. We're going to play you a clip of Santa Claus from a holiday movie or TV special mashed up with a clip of a famous person named Barbara. You can earn one point for identifying the film, and one point for naming the Barbara. Alex, stay in the lead, and you are in the final round. Jonathan, you need to get more points, or you have to sit on Santa's lap and tell him your greatest regret of this year...

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: ...So far. Here are your first two clips.

(SOUNDBITE OF FILM, "MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET")

EDMUND GWENN: (As Kris Kringle) Darling, what would you like for Christmas?

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "ALL THAT I WANT")

BARBRA STREISAND: (Singing) I want a gown of diamonds, long gloves and sweet perfume.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

EISENBERG: Movie and Barbara - Alex.

ALEX JOHNSON: For the movie, it's an old one. So I'm guessing it might be, like, "Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus" or something along those lines. And then the Barbara - I was going to say Barbara Bush, but I don't think that's Barbara Bush.

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: All right - bunch of great guesses there.

(LAUGHTER)

JOHNSON: Probably all wrong.

EISENBERG: But all wrong - that is correct. All right. Jonathan, can you steal?

JONATHAN COOK: Maybe if we play them again.

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: Well, yeah. It looks like we can do that.

(SOUNDBITE OF FILM, "MIRACLE OF 34TH STREET")

GWENN: (As Kris Kringle) Darling, what would you like for Christmas.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "ALL THAT I WANT")

STREISAND: (Singing) I want a gown of diamonds, long gloves and sweet perfume.

COOK: I lied to you. I'm sorry.

EISENBERG: That's OK.

COOK: I can't steal.

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: No, this...

JONATHAN COULTON, BYLINE: You just wanted to wanted to hear it again. I get it.

EISENBERG: This happens sometimes. Sometimes, people...

COOK: I'm too responsible.

EISENBERG: They're like, I'll hear it again. And then they realize it's the same clue...

COOK: Yeah.

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: ...They get to hear twice - no extra. All right. Anyone out there, what's the movie?

UNIDENTIFIED AUDIENCE: "Miracle On 34th Street".

EISENBERG: "Miracle On 34th Street" - and the Barbra...

UNIDENTIFIED AUDIENCE: Streisand.

EISENBERG: Streisand - I say to both of you, learn your masters.

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: These next two clips are both from the small screen.

(SOUNDBITE OF FILM, "HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS!")

BORIS KARLOFF: (As The Grinch) With this coat and this hat, I'll look just like Saint Nick.

(SOUNDBITE OF TV SHOW, "SHARK TANK")

BARBARA CORCORAN: Nick, I think you spent about twice as much money as you needed to get this off the ground.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

EISENBERG: Jonathan.

COOK: Barbara from "Shark Tank."

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: We can take that. Yeah, Barbara Corcoran from "Shark Tank." How about the other clip? Do you want to weigh in on that?

COOK: I don't think so.

EISENBERG: OK.

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: Alex, can you steal the other half of this?

JOHNSON: "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" (ph).

EISENBERG: Yeah. You're right.

(APPLAUSE)

EISENBERG: That was "How The Grinch Stole Christmas!" - right. And I'm sure "Shark Tank" contestants probably consider Barbara Corcoran the Grinch of "Shark Tank."

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: All right. In this mashup, the first clip is of a retired politician.

(SOUNDBITE OF ARCHIVED RECORDING)

BARBARA BOXER: We want to wake up the Congress to the fact that time is running out.

(SOUNDBITE OF FILM, "FROSTY THE SNOWMAN")

JIMMY DURANTE: (As Narrator) They were too late.

PAUL FREES: (As Santa Claus) Too late? Why, nonsense.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

EISENBERG: Alex.

JOHNSON: The clip is from "Frosty The Snowman."

EISENBERG: That is correct. How about the other half?

JOHNSON: No.

EISENBERG: OK. Jonathan, can you steal?

COOK: I'm sorry. I think the Barbara's a California politician, but I do not know the last name.

EISENBERG: Right - can't take that as an answer. Let's hear from you people. What's the Barbara? Who's the Barbara?

UNIDENTIFIED AUDIENCE: Boxer.

EISENBERG: Senator Barbara Boxer - that is correct. Good job, audience.

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: This is your last clue. And this last mashup gets dark.

(SOUNDBITE OF ARCHIVED RECORDING)

BARBARA WALTERS: I'm going to ask you a terrible question. Did you ever order anyone killed?

(SOUNDBITE OF FILM, "THE SANTA CLAUSE")

ERIC LLOYD: (As Charlie Calvin) You killed him.

TIM ALLEN: (As Scott Calvin) Did not - and he's not Santa.

LLOYD: (As Charlie Calvin) Well, he was.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

EISENBERG: Jonathan.

COOK: Santa Clause - "The Santa Clause."

EISENBERG: Yes. "The Santa Clause" is correct.

COOK: And then the other one, I believe, is also on the list - Barbara Walters.

EISENBERG: Yeah. You got it.

(APPLAUSE)

EISENBERG: OK - great game. It is very close, but Alex is moving on to our final round.

(APPLAUSE)

EISENBERG: Coming up, our guest musician is Michael McDonald - E-I-E-I-O. We'll ask him what it was like to join the Doobie Brothers and become a newbie Doobie. I'm Ophira Eisenberg. And this is ASK ME ANOTHER from NPR.
