Justice Dept. Sues Justice Coal Companies, Seeks Unpaid Mine Fines

The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a civil lawsuit against 23 coal companies owned by the family of West Virginia Governor Jim Justice. As Brittany Patterson reports, the DOJ is seeking over $4.7 million in unpaid fines and fees for mine health and safety violations.

A report released this week on public education in West Virginia could be a roadmap for lawmakers set to focus on improving the state’s system. As Glynis Board reports, the West Virginia Department of Education’s report presents ideas and concerns collected from an online survey and a series of forums held around the state.
