Taking Small Steps To Solve Big Problems: Recovery And Climate Change

072220 Taking Small Steps To Solve Big Problems: Recovery And Climate Change

On this West Virginia Morning, while the coronavirus pandemic rages on, so does climate change. Some researchers say planting native species in our backyard is a step in the right direction. Also, in this show, we hear reports from around the state on challenges facing our region to provide adequate health care for both hospital access and those in recovery.

A financially strapped hospital in the Northern Panhandle announced unspecified staff reductions Tuesday, the latest in a series of medical center cutbacks in the state over the past year. Glynis Board reports.

COVID-19 has forced health care providers to increase telehealth options. Patients can tend to their health care, treatment and therapy needs while staying at home. In many rural West Virginia communities, lack of broadband access makes online appointments impossible. Emily Allen brings us a story exploring how one person in recovery stays healthy far from the internet.

A new coalition of progressive policy and environmental groups has released a plan that says Ohio Valley communities could reap the benefits of federal action to address climate change and COVID-19. Brittany Patterson has more.

One question some experts want gardeners to consider more often when choosing what to include in their gardens and yards – how will this plant impact the wider environment?  The Allegheny Front’s Julie Grant spoke with gardeners, botanists, and native plant enthusiasts about why these decisions matter.
