Capito Says She Will Vote No On Removing Trump

West Virginia Republican Senator Shelley Moore Capito said she will not vote to remove President Donald Trump from office.

Speaking with reporters Tuesday afternoon, Capito reiterated her support for the president, who has been impeached by the House.

"I don’t believe that the president has committed the alleged offenses in the impeachment resolutions," she said. "And I think the House brought a very weak and hurried case over to the Senate and asked us to fix their case basically."

The junior senator also said she would not support a resolution to censure the president, that was floated by West Virginia's other U.S. senator, Democrat Joe Manchin.

Manchin said Monday he remains undecided on how he will vote.

The Senate is expected to vote whether to convict or acquit the president Wednesday. A two-thirds majority is needed to remove a president from office. Republicans hold 53 of 100 seats, therefore a conviction remains unlikely.
