The state School Building Authority is set to vote on funding for facilities projects in West Virginia.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports that one of the proposals under consideration is a consolidation plan for Fayette County schools.
Fayette County wants to trim its 18 schools down to 11 and preserve only two existing high schools. The initial part of the plan includes building a new Collins Middle School and a new school for pre-kindergarten through second grades in the Oak Hill area.
The School Building Authority is meeting Monday in Charleston to decide how to dole out funding. Several other county public school systems also have requested money.
Eighteen school systems requested about $95 million. The School Building Authority has about $49 million in funds available this year.
