The West Virginia School Building Authority has voted to fund $48.8 million in facilities projects statewide.
Monday’s vote includes $12.6 million for the start of a school consolidation plan in Fayette County.
Fayette County wants to trim its 18 schools to 11. The initial part of the plan includes building a new Collins Middle School and a new school for pre-kindergarten through second grades in the Oak Hill area. The county is seeking $22.6 million over two years from the School Building Authority for its consolidation plan.
In all, the authority voted to fund projects in 15 counties. Other significant funding includes $7.8 million for projects in Mercer County, $5.1 million for Morgan County and $4.9 million each for Berkeley and Greenbrier counties.
Eighteen counties had requested about $95 million.
