Major Redistricting Proposed by Jefferson County Schools

As one of the few school districts in the state that is growing, Jefferson County Schools could be redistricted to shift students from fast-growing schools to ones growing at a slower rate.

The Journal of Martinsburg reports Jefferson County Schools Superintendent Dr. Bondy Shay Gibson outlined the district’s proposed plan to the Board of Education at its meeting Monday night.

If approved by the Board of Education, the plan would take effect in the 2017-18 school year. The plan would require shifting more than 800 students to locations different from the one the student would be assigned under the current plan. No district staff would need to be cut.

Gibson says the district is one of eight of West Virginia’s 55 counties that is currently growing.
