Kanawha County Officials Hear Talk About Flood Recovery

Recovery following severe floods this summer dominated discussions at the Kanawha County Commission meeting.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports Greater Kanawha Long Term Recovery Committee Director Mike Shinn told the commission Monday he's worried many Elkview and Clendenin area residents won't be able to get back into their homes before winter unless they get more volunteers.

He's looking to arrange a meeting with clergy and businesses owners in hopes of addressing that need.

Connie Arthur Nelson, of Elk River Strong, a flood-recovery organization, appeared before the commission to get help organizing a community rally to lift the spirits of flood victims with live music while spreading the word about remaining work in the area, including a shopping center that closed after its access bridge collapsed during the June 23 floods.
