Health Officials Plan In-Person Flood Survey

West Virginia health officials plan to survey random households affected by last month’s devastating floods in two of the hardest-hit counties.

On Thursday, the state Department of Health and Human Resources announced the survey in Kanawha and Greenbrier counties.

With the help of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, state and health interviewers will conduct the survey Aug. 1-3 during the daytime.

They will use a standardized questionnaire to gauge each household’s physical and behavioral health, and ask families if they know about the resources available to them.

State health officials say more than 10,000 tetanus vaccines were mobilized for the flood response.

The June 23 floods killed 23 people and damaged homes, businesses and infrastructure.
