EPA to Hold Public Meeting for Clarksburg Waste Site

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public meeting for a hazardous waste site in Clarksburg that could be added to the federal Superfund program’s priority list.

The Exponent Telegram reports city manager Martin Howe says the May 24 meeting will be at the North View Fire Station.

On April 7, the EPA proposed adding the former North 25th Street Glass and Zinc property to its priority list. The agency says the site poses public health and environmental threats.

Glass was made at the site from 1899 to 1989 and zine ore was processed from 1911 to 1924.

It’s now used as an automobile repair service and for storage of recycled paper for a pulp facility.

The EPA says a zinc slag pile on the property contains lead.
