The Kanawha County Public Library system is making several changes to its checkout times and late fee rules.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports the system is increasing the allowed checkout period for DVDS from seven days to 21 days. This change is among other checkout changes that’ll take effect July 1.

Alan Engelbert, the Kanawha library’s director, discussed the plans Monday. Engelbert says the changes are broadly designed to make the system more patron-friendly.

The maximum amount of overdue fees patrons can accrue before being blocked from further checkouts will increase from $3 to $5, and the grace period on returning items without facing fees will drop from seven days to three.

The libraries’ maximum public computer reservation times will also increase from two hours per day to three hours.
