The 15 Counties Awarded State School Facilities Funding

The West Virginia School Building Authority met Monday to award more than $56 million in state funds to county school systems for facilities improvement projects. The following are the counties selected and the details of their projects:

Barbour County- awarded $4.6 million for energy management projects and HVAC renovations at seven schools.

Calhoun County- awarded $1.1 million for HVAC renovations at Calhoun Middle/High School.

Doddridge County- awarded $800,000 for the addition of two classrooms, a multipurpose room and an auxiliary gym at Doddridge County High School.

Harrison County- awarded $10.7 million for the construction of a new Johnson Elementary School. 

Jackson County- awarded $10.2 million for a middle school addition and renovations to Ravenswood High School which will replace the existing Ravenswood Middle School.

Kanawha County- awarded $1.7 million for additions and renovations to replace four portable classrooms at Andrew Heights Elementary School and expand the school’s gym/cafeteria.

Logan County- awarded $6.5 million to construct a new elementary school  at the site of the current West Chapmanville Elementary School which will result in the closure of East Chapmanville Elementary School. 

Monongalia County- awarded $4.3 million for additions and renovations to Brookhaven Elementary School.

Pleasants County- awarded $316, 596 to build a safe schools entrance and ADA compliant restrooms at Pleasants County Middle School.

Pocahontas County- awarded a $100,000 reserve grant for further consideration of a $11.6 million proposal for renovations at Marlinton Middle School and Green Bank Elementary/Middle School resulting in the closure of Marlinton Elementary School.

Raleigh County-  awarded $20 million over two years to construct a new Crab Orchard Elementary School and additions and renovations to Shady Springs High Schools. The award will result in the closure of Lester, Sophia-Soak Creek and the existing Crab Orchard Elementary Schools and will eliminate overcrowding at Shady Springs. 

Roane County- awarded $970, 110 for a physical education addition at Spencer Elementary School.

Tucker County- awarded $5.1 million for HVAC renovations at Tucker County High School and Tucker Valley Elementary/Middle School.

Webster County- awarded $716, 078 replace a major portion of the roof at Webster Springs Elementary School.

Wirt County- awarded $2.2 million for a roof system replacement and exterior weatherproofing at Wirt County High School and Wirt County Primary Center and Middle School.
