Hunters killed more than 1,100 turkeys during West Virginia’s fall hunting season.
Keith Krantz with the Division of Natural Resources says the 1,131 turkeys killed by hunters topped last year’s total of 956.
Thirty-three of the state’s 55 counties were open to turkey hunting. Krantz said Thursday in a news release that Randolph County reported 114 turkeys killed, the highest total in the state. Greenbrier County was second with 81 turkeys killed, followed by Preston County with 71, Nicholas County with 63 and Pocahontas with 62.
