A Jackson County meat wholesaler has been ordered to comply with a subpoena in an investigation by Attorney General Patrick Morrisey's office.
Morrisey's office has been investigating complaints that Thaxton Wholesale Meats LLC coerced elderly customers into buying products.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports that Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge Tod Kaufman ordered the company to turn over documents sought by Morrisey's office on Friday.
Company owner Steve Thaxton said after the hearing that Morrisey's office exceeded its authority. If any fraudulent activity occurred, Thaxton said it was the fault of people he contracts with to sell meat door to door.
