A controlled deer hunt is set for next week at Pipestem Resort State Park in southern West Virginia

Division of Natural Resources wildlife biologist Todd Dowdy tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that the hunt scheduled for Monday through Wednesday is the first at the resort. Hunters will be taken to designated tree stand locations and be allowed to kill one deer.

A similar hunt is scheduled at Cacapon State Park in Berkeley Springs on Dec. 7 through 9.

DNR director Bob Fala says the hunts are being held at the two resorts to reduce high deer populations.
