A 1974 graduate of Shepherd University has been named the 16th president of the school.
Mary J.C. Hendrix is the first Shepherd graduate to serve as president in the school’s 144-year history. She has been serving as president and chief scientific officer of the children’s hospital and research institute at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
After graduating from Shepherd, Hendrix received her Ph.D. from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and then was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship to train at Harvard Medical School. She has held positions at the University of Arizona, University of California San Francisco, St. Louis University and the University of Iowa.
Shepherd’s selection of Hendrix is subject to confirmation by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission on Nov. 20.
