A Macy's spokesman says the retailer expects to hire about 2,900 seasonal workers at its Martinsburg eCommerce Fulfillment Center.

The hiring plan for the holiday season is down from an estimated 3,600 seasonal workers in 2014. Macy's spokesman Jim Sluzewksi tells The Journal that the fulfillment center has a larger than anticipated year-round staff.

Still, the Martinsburg center has exceeded the company's original estimates for seasonal and full-time workers since it opened in 2012.

Sluzewski says Macy's initially estimated that 700 temporary seasonal workers would be hired each year.

Macy's initially estimated that the center's full-time equivalent workforce would be1,200 employees. The year-round force is about 1,700 workers.
