WVU Helps Harpers Ferry Recover From Fire

Harper's Ferry Fire

West Virginia University is helping Harpers Ferry recover from a fire that damaged four buildings and nine businesses.

WVU Extension Service program coordinator Chad Proudfoot is working to match local needs with the university's resources. He spends about three days a week in the historic town.

Proudfoot tells The Journal that he's also acting as a liaison between the town and WVU faculty members who are willing to help.

He says the university has provided faculty members to check the burned structures' integrity. Faculty members specializing in public relations and marketing also are providing assistance.

He says local officials are leading the recovery effort and WVU is providing assistance wherever it can.

The cause of the July 23 fire hasn't been determined.
