Martinsburg residents and businesses have lined up to oppose a planned downtown drug recovery center for men.

Media outlets report more than a dozen people spoke out against the proposed 60-bed facility before a Martinsburg City Council meeting Thursday night.

Martinsburg-based EastRidge Health Systems wants to open the facility in a former car dealership. It would serve men with substance abuse and mental health issues.

EastRidge special projects developer Thomas Kimm says a zoning ordinance exception must be secured to operate the facility.

Car repair center owner Bill Largent says he plans to take his business outside the city if the rehabilitation facility opens.

Martinsburg-Berkeley County Convention & Visitors Bureau executive director Laura Gassler says her office across the street from the dealership also would be forced to move.
