WVU Opens Confucius Institute

Woodburn Hall, West Virginia University

West Virginia University has opened a Chinese language, cultural and business center known as a Confucius Institute.

WVU opened the institute on Wednesday within the College of Business and Economics in Morgantown.

WVU finance professor Victor Chow will lead the institute.

The Chinese government-run Confucius Institute has opened branches in hundreds of universities and schools around the world.

Through the program, universities partner with a Chinese school. WVU’s partner is Tianjin University of Finance and Economics.

Interim Business and Economics College dean Nancy McIntyre says the WVU program will help the development of Chinese language teachers at the middle school and high school levels in West Virginia.
