Wayne County Assessor Eric Hodges faces charges of using a county purchasing card to buy items for personal use.

Media outlets report that West Virginia State Police arrested Hodges on Tuesday. The 41-year-old Wayne resident is charged with felony embezzlement, computer fraud and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Hodges is accused of using a county purchasing card to buy more than $5,600 worth of hardware items, tools and ammunition on July 9 and July 14 in Webster Springs in Webster County.

Media outlets report that a criminal complaint filed by state police says the purchases weren’t authorized.

Putnam County prosecutor Mark Sorsaia has been appointed as special prosecutor for the case.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether Hodges has an attorney.
