The National Endowment for the Humanities has announced $274,000 in grants for two projects in West Virginia.

The recipients are Shepherd University and the nonprofit West Virginia University Research Corp.

They are part of nearly $37 million in grants for 212 humanities projects nationwide.

Among the projects the funding will support are traveling exhibitions, digital research tools, professional development opportunities for teachers and college faculty, cultural collection preservation and the production of films, television, and radio programs.

Shepherd received a $119,000 grant for a three-week seminar for 16 school teachers on Appalachia’s literary and cultural heritage.

A $155,000 grant will fund the third phase of a WVU project to digitize the contents of old newspapers.
