Mercer County Airport to See Improvements
Mercer County Airport plans to begin construction this summer on a taxiway realignment.
Airport manager Clinton Ransom tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that a portion of the taxiway will be removed so that a new taxiway intersection can be placed on runway 5. A similar realignment was done in 2014 for runway 2-3.
Ranson says the Federal Aviation Administration will fund 90 percent of the project. The remainder will be paid by the West Virginia Aeronautics Commission.
The project is part of a three-part improvement plan. Next year, fencing will be placed around the airport.
Ransom says the airport plans to begin construction on a runway rehabilitation project in late 2017 or early 2018.
