Groups Meet Fundraising Goal to Preserve Pavilion

Groups working to preserve a 180-year-old pavilion in Greenbrier County have surpassed their fundraising goal.

The Greenbrier Historical Society and Friends of The Blue launched a Kickstarter campaign in February to raise $25,000. WVVA-TV reports that the campaign raised $27,000.

The money will be used for stabilization work and the beginning of restoration.

The Greek Revival-style pavilion was once part of the Blue Sulphur Springs spa about 9 miles north of Alderson. Union troops burned every structure at the site except the pavilion during the Civil War.

Preservation Alliance of West Virginia included the pavilion on its 2013 endangered properties list.
