West Virginia officials are promoting state parks by offering prizes for catching specially tagged trout.
Starting in March, people who catch those trout at some West Virginia state parks will earn $100 discounts on week-long stays at designated state-park cabins.
The Charleston Gazette reports that the promotion is being sponsored by the Division of Natural Resources will begin when five state park lakes receive their March trout stockings.
Lakes in Tomlinson Run, Watoga, Cacapon, Cedar Creek and Pipestem state parks will get 100 tagged fish each. Some of the fish in each stocking will have brightly colored plastic tags attached to them.
Anglers wishing to redeem their prizes must tell officials when the fish was caught, its tag number and if it was kept or released.
