Tomblin Signs Senate Bill Supporting Oil and Gas
Governor Tomblin has signed another bill from this legislative session. Senate Bill 280 supports the oil and gas drilling industries.
Prior to its passage, companies acquiring assets from existing operations in West Virginia were required to re-apply for permits. This legislation eliminates the reapplication process and authorizes the transfer of existing permits with approval from the Department of Environmental Protection.
At the signing ceremony this morning the Governor was joined by Senate President Bill Cole, members of the Legislature and representatives from Southwestern Energy. That company recently acquired the assets of Chesapeake Energy.
