Rhode Island Senator to Visit W. Va. on Wednesday
As a part of their agreement to visit each other’s states, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) will host Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) in West Virginia on Wednesday, October 22 to demonstrate West Virginia’s ability to utilize diverse energy resources. Senator Manchin will emphasize the importance of investing in the technology needed to provide cleaner power while also ensuring reliable and affordable electricity throughout the United States. This trip will continue the Senators’ ongoing dialogue about the need to find meaningful solutions to develop the technology necessary to produce affordable and reliable electricity that meets our nation’s energy needs while also addressing the adverse effects of climate change.

Senators Manchin and Whitehouse hold a press conference to preview their tour of West Virginia energy production facilities
When: 8:15 a.m.
Where: West Virginia State Hanger, Conference Room, 502 Eagle Mountain Road, Charleston.
What: Senators Manchin and Whitehouse will host a press conference with reporters to discuss the purpose of Senator Whitehouse’s visit to learn more about West Virginia’s fossil fuel energy production and the state’s effective efforts to produce power cleaner.
Senators Manchin and Whitehouse tour Pinnacle Mine
When: 11 a.m.
Where: Cliffs Pinnacle Prep Plant Guard Shack (Please see directions to location below)
What: Senators Manchin and Whitehouse will learn about the demand, process and exports of mine production today and meet with local coal miners, union leaders and business owners to discuss the impact national environmental regulations, safety regulations and job losses have on local businesses and communities.
Senators Manchin and Whitehouse visit Mount Storm Power Station, attend a briefing on clean coal technology and drive to wind turbines
When: 2:30 p.m.
Where: Mt. Storm Power Station, 436 Dominion Blvd., Mount Storm.
What: Senators Manchin and Whitehouse will visit Mount Storm Power Station and attend a briefing provided by officials from Dominion Energy, American Electric Power and FirstEnergy on actions taken to produce cleaner power from their coal facilities while ensuring reliable and affordable electricity throughout the region. They will also drive to the wind turbines, which is the second biggest wind farm east of the Mississippi River.
Senators Manchin and Whitehouse tour NETL
When: 4 p.m.
Where: National Energy Technology Laboratory, 3610 Collins Ferry Road, Morgantown.
What: Senators Manchin and Whitehouse will tour NETL and meet with experts to gather information about the facility’s development of ongoing technology projects, including carbon, capture and storage.
