A coalition of environmental groups plans to rally at the state capitol building to oppose an environmental permit for mountaintop removal. That permit allows surface mining next to Kanawha State Forest just outside of Charleston.
The demonstration is planned for Thursday evening on the Capitol complex.
The group plans to collect petitions asking Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin to rescind the permit that would allow for mountaintop removal and will present the petitions to the governor’s office Friday.
Members of the Kanawha State Forest Coalition said so far they have collected more than 2,000 signatures.
