The process of implementing a new performance-based system for accrediting the state's public schools will begin in September.
The Dominion Post reports the state Office of Educational Performance Audits will conduct on-site reviews in each of Monongalia County's public schools in mid-September. Schools across the state will be reviewed over the next two years.
The state Board of Education approved the new policy in May. It starts in 2015. The policy establishes an A to F grading system like the one parents are accustomed to seeing on report cards.
The current system puts each school in one of five categories, with a "success" ranking at the top and a "priority" ranking indicating areas that require the most improvement and resources. Categories in between included "transition," "focus" and "support."
