Alderson Broaddus Student from Va. Charged in Fight at Wesleyan

West Virginia Wesleyan College

Alderson Broaddus University has expelled a student from Virginia following his arrest in connection with a group fight at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Buckhannon police chief Matt Gregory tells media outlets that 19-year-old Steven Smith of Virginia Beach, Va., is charged with malicious wounding.

Gregory says about 20 students were involved in the weekend fight outside a fraternity house near the Wesleyan campus in Buckhannon.

Alderson Broaddus spokeswoman Ashley Mittlemeier says the university has zero tolerance for the kind of behavior displayed during the altercation. She says Smith has been expelled.

Smith was being held Thursday morning in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $75,000 bond. Jail records didn’t indicate whether he has an attorney.

Alderson Broaddus is about 20 miles northeast of Wesleyan.
