Miley to House: Prepare for Special Session
House Speaker Tim Miley has told members of the West Virginia House of Delegates to prepare for a special session at the end of the week.
Wednesday Governor Tomblin announced an extension of the budget session which would have ended Thursday.
Miley told members they will instead put a compromised budget bill to a vote Friday afternoon and adjourn. Then, he believes, the governor will call the extraordinary session.
Here is a list of bills Miley said will likely be taken up during that session:
- SB 344 and 345- supplemental appropriations bills that fund some state programs through July of this year
- SB 379- allowing counties to give some elected officials pay raises
- HB 4333- the “Haircut Bill,” pulling a percentage of lottery funds to plug holes in the general revenue budget
- HB 4411- regulating the disposal of drill cuttings from hydraulic fracturing sites in landfills
Miley added the governor may add additional bills to the special session call before the end of the week.
Speaking to HB 4411, Sen. Herb Snyder said the governor will likely back the version of the bill that came out of a conference committee on the final night of session, but ran out of time to be passed in the Senate.
A member of the governor’s staff said they are working with legislative leadership and involved stakeholders to reach agreements on the bills before calling the special session.
