An organization in southern West Virginia is offering low-risk ways to stay active, during the colder months and on Thanksgiving.

Active Southern West Virginia is a non-profit organization created to combat heart disease, diabetes, drug abuse, and obesity by assisting communities to develop programs that encourage healthier, active lifestyles.

The group will host hikes and activities throughout the winter and even on holidays.

The Active Southern West Virginia Winter Hiking series began on Sunday in Beckley. The hikes will continue each Sunday at 2 pm through December 27, according to their community calendar.

There is some risk involved which is why Active Southern West Virginia will be screening participants and asking participants to keep their mask on unless they are 10 feet from others.
