The president and CEO of West Virginia’s largest trade association for coal mining companies will retire early next year, following 28 years of membership.
Bill Raney joined the West Virginia Coal Association in 1992, following years of experience with the Department of Natural Resources and the state’s Mining and Reclamation Association. Raney also served in the West Virginia National Guard, where he held a couple of command positions and at one point was special assistant to the adjutant general.
In a press release from the coal association on Monday, Raney called his tenure a “true honor,” adding that he looks forward to spending more time with his family.
According to the Coal Association’s board, current Vice President Chris Hamilton will take over for Raney next year.
Hamilton, a Wheeling native, chairs the West Virginia Business and Industry Council and the West Virginia Coal Forum. Hamilton joined the Association 25 years ago and was once Deputy Director of the West Virginia Department of Mines.
