DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION SERVICES – CHARLESTON, WV

West Virginia Public Broadcasting is seeking candidates for a Director of Education Services position in its Charleston office.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Director of Education Services will represent West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s educational efforts in the larger community, as well as being responsible for developing partnerships with agencies within the Department of Education and the Arts, Department of Education, RESAs, county school districts and individual schools, as well as the institutions of higher education, nonprofits and businesses, with the goal of providing teachers and students with the tools they need to learn.  The director  will also supervise three employees and a team of contract teachers who help develop educational videos, curriculum, training and other materials for West Virginia’s educators and students . Duties will include supervising and adding new resources to West Virginia LearningMedia, our free educational website, and the development of educational videos and curriculum designed to encourage STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, the arts and math). The director will also oversee our successful “Ready To Learn” program, helping thousands of West Virginia children improve literacy and math skills.  This employee will also be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive evaluation plan, to measure our effectiveness and help us learn how to improve.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2 years of relevant, job-related experience.  Experience managing employees, teachers and students.  Must possess a proven track record of success in fundraising through grants and partnerships. Must have ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and be project oriented.  Must also possess strong verbal and written communication skills, strong leadership skills, and demonstrated ability to collaborate productively.

NEWS AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS REPORTER / PRODUCER –Morgantown, WV

West Virginia Public Broadcasting is seeking a News and Public Affairs Reporter/Producer in its Morgantown office.

GENERAL GUIDELINES:

Candidate must have excellent writing, reporting, interviewing, newsgathering, editing, and digital media skills to produce substantive stories for radio, television and the Internet. An understanding of public broadcasting and an ability to work with others is essential. This position is based at West Virginia Public Broadcasting 191 Scott Avenue Morgantown, WV.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: 

The Reporter/Producer’s primary responsibility will be to provide radio/TV and Internet news and features for programs produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting. The Reporter/Producer will develop ideas and proposals for reports and programs, exercising news judgment to determine stories of statewide interest.  The job may require working non-standard hours (nights, weekends) based on completing assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Reporter/Producer must have excellent reporting, interviewing and writing skills with the ability to produce under tight timelines. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and maintain high journalistic standards under deadline pressure. A Reporter/Producer with investigative news skills is preferred. Digital audio computer editing knowledge and experience with studio and field recording equipment is desirable. Two years of reporting experience preferred. Previous experience with posting to the web and using social media is highly desirable. Bachelor’s degree or an appropriate combination of education and experience required.
