Nature Producer Visits West Virginia
The Friends of West Virginia Public Broadcasting hosted an evening with Fred Kaufman, award-winning executive producer of Nature on PBS at the Erickson Alumni Center in Morgantown on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Kaufman shared his experiences working behind-the-scenes on the popular series and answered questions about various topics including "How do you get so close to some of these animals?" (Answer: put your camera on a very, very long pole!) He also shared some video clips from the upcoming season, beginning in October on West Virginia Public Broadcasting.
Kaufman has been a leading executive in the natural history genre. As the executive producer of the acclaimed Nature series, Kaufman has won multiple Emmy and Peabody Awards. He has been with the series since the beginning and overseen it since 1991. During his tenure, Nature has been honored with over 700 industry awards. In 2012, Kaufman was named the recipient of the International Wildlife Film Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Media.
