The Rock of Our Development Department
In each of our lives, we have a rock, someone we can depend on when times get tough. You know what I’m talking about: the eye of the hurricane, the wind beneath my wings, that sort of person.
In our development department, that person is Peggy Dorsey, our individual giving manager. For her dedication, Peggy is the recipient of this month’s Storyteller Award.
We are preparing for Peggy’s retirement this fall and her importance in our development efforts cannot be overstated. She makes sure everything gets done right and on time – pledge drives, premiums, letters, database updates, responses to member questions. Simply put, she does an amazing amount of work.
Matter of fact, when development consultant Becky Chinn reviewed our department, she found a well-oiled machine that Peggy had built. Her main concern was, “How are you going to replace this woman?”
Her supervisor and friend, Marilyn DiVita, puts it this way:
“It’s been my privilege to work with Peggy over the past 26 years. Though none of us are irreplaceable, she comes closest of anyone I’ve known in my entire professional life.
“Beyond our work together, she’s a trusted friend and confidant. Through her I’ve learned about the power of quiet strength, how to better understand my children and husband, and how to brace for the challenges life sometimes presents with dignity and grace.
“For many of us, she’s been our rock. It’s hard to imagine life without her daily presence but her retirement is richly deserved.”
