The West Virginia State University Board of Governors named the university’s 11th president today.

Dr. Anthony Jenkins will serve as the next president of West Virginia State University.  He’ll officially take the post on July 1. Jenkins replaces former president Brian Hemphill who left the university to become the president of Radford University in Virginia.

Jenkins is a native of Washington, D.C., a United States Army veteran and comes to West Virginia State University from the University of Central Florida.

The West Virginia State presidential search advisory committee made the selection of Jenkins along with a two other candidates after a national search.

The candidates were invited to Institute in late April to meet with students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members and business leaders in a series of open forums. The presidential contract requires final approval from the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
