House and Senate Leaders Talk Medical Versus Recreational Marijuana

Jan 15, 2019

The Senate President and House Speaker join us for a conversation about some of the top issues this session, and we take a closer look at medical marijuana with a special report from Senior Statehouse Reporter Dave Mistich.

Both political parties want to fix a stalled medical marijuana program. But House Democrats are also pushing for the legalization of marijuana's recreational use.

Senate President Mitch Carmichael, R-Jackson, and House Speaker Roger Hanshaw, R-Clay, join host Suzanne Higgins on set to discuss the session so far. Here are highlights from the interview:

  • Medical marijuana versus recreational marijuana
  • Repealing the Business Inventory Tax
  • Poverty in Southern West Virginia
  • Economic Development
  • Access to Community and Technical College and Workforce Training

Volunteers were recognized at the Capitol for giving freely of their time and energy to helping others. We bring you a remark from Sen. Stephen Baldwin, D-Greenbrier.

On Wednesday, the chairmen of the Senate and House Finance Committees will join us. Plus, we'll have an in-depth report on the community and technical college tuition assistance bill.
